At Elmwood Park in downtown Roanoke there was a Tea Party held with aproximately 1000 participants. The event was hosted by Roanoke Tea Party. Which is a group of concerned citizens who see Washington destroying the United States through excesive taxation, over regulation, wastefull spending, & eroding personal freedom. They are a non-partisan group which invites members of all political parties to join their organization. They state on their website that they will work with any political group that supports their agenda to restore America to its "core values".
The event got started at about 3 PM with tents and tables set up by various groups which support the Tea Party cause. Groups which participated were (in no particular order): Roanoke Tea Party, Tertium Quids, The Roanoke Valley Libertarian Party, Campaign For Liberty, 2nd Tuesday Constitution Group, Roanoke Area FairTax, Roanoke City Republican Party, The Bob McDonnel Campaign, The Ken Cuccinelli Campaign & others. At 5 PM the guest speakers began speaking.
The Organizers of the group are: Christy Bowles, Chip Tarbutton, and Lee Carter. The group also organized the April 15th Tax Day Tea Party in Roanoke.
Musical entertainment for the Event was provided by Mid-Life Crisis.
Band members include: Dave Clark - Lead Vocals, Acoustic Guitar, Keyboards; Kevin Hendrick - Back up Vocals, Lead and Rythm Guitar, Keyboards; Bart Sweitzer- Lead and Back up Vocals, Drums; Kyle Thomas - Bass Guitar.
Their music includes "60's til Now, Classic, Progressive, and Pop Rock".
Guest speakers at the event included: Delegate H. Morgan Griffith (8th District Virginia House of Delegates), Jeff Bowles (Chairman Libertarian Party of Virginia), James W. Lark III (past Chairman Libertarian National Committe), Jackie Bledsoe (Director - Roanoke Area FairTax), Stuart Bain (Republican Candidate for Congress), Bill Cleaveland (Candidate for House of Delegates), Troy Bird (Candidate for House of Delegates), Mickey Mixon, Jim Ludington (Executive Director - AriseAmerica.org), Brian Gottstein (Host Freedom & Prosperity Radio & Columnist Roanoke Star Sentinal), Tonya Levis, Senator Ken Cuccinelli (Senator - District 37 Senate of Virginia & Republican Candidate for Attorney General), and others.
